Society in Transition
Social Change, Institutions, and the Crisis of Modernity
Book overview
Society in Transition examines how demographic change, economic restructuring, digital technologies, and ecological and geopolitical pressures reshape everyday life. Bringing classical and contemporary sociology into conversation, it explores the uneven adjustment of families, education, work, welfare, and the state. The book connects institutional lag with inequality, insecurity, declining trust, and fragmented belonging, while considering how public institutions can respond. Its central contribution is a conceptual framework linking transition, institutional fit, distribution, and legitimacy, together with a proposed protocol for comparative empirical research. Written for students, researchers, and policy practitioners, it offers a basis for investigating social change and assessing more inclusive institutional responses.
